SPARTACUS RECORDS was established in 2000 by Scottish saxophonist Tommy Smith. The recordings in the catalogue feature many great musicians including Kenny Barron, Gareth Williams, Brian Kellock, Ingrid Jensen, Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, Joe Lovano, John Scofield, John Taylor, John Patittuci, Bill Stewart, Steve Hamilton, James Genus, Peter Washington, Billy Drummond, Orlando Le Fleming, Sebastiaan De Krom, Gareth Williams, Alyn Cosker, Kevin Glasgow, Clarence Penn, Aidan O'Donnell, Groven Myhren, The Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra and legendary poet Edwin Morgan. After Smith recorded a succession of records from 1983 through 1999 with independents (Giant Strides, Taking off, The Berklee Tapes, Progressions), Blue Note Records (Step By Step, Peeping Tom, Standards, Paris) and Linn Records (Reminiscence, Misty Morning & No Time, Azure, Beasts of Scotland, Sound of Love, Blue Smith, Gymnopedie) he decided to launch his own recording company. The lastest record KARMA was released in 2011.
